Why I am Vegan

30 Nov

I used to be hesitant to answer this question when I first became vegan because I used to be a meat eater who was proud to be a meat eater. I always loved blood and guts so I would tell people how much I wanted to go hunting and kill my own animal. I still love blood and guts and my outlet is gory horror films. Especially Italian Giallo films.

Fast forward a few years later I became a fishitarian. I didn’t eat dairy or other meats except fish (side note: fish is meat, you are not vegetarian because you eat fish) Mostly because I wanted to lose weight, I went on a health kick because my metabolism had started to change. Then I met a guy who was vegan. I was going through a difficult time in my life and he was really into holistic treatments, somatic therapies, and vegan lifestyle. This introduction changed my entire life. 7 years later I am more vegan than ever. What does that even mean? More vegan?

It would be hard for me to eat meat. Perhaps someday I might because my body changed and I need some sort of meat, I don’t know. What I do know is that I cannot turn my head as I pass the cattle that are jam packed in terrible conditions in the slaughter houses, or the chickens that are crammed by the thousands as they are genetically modified outgrowing their bodies, I will not close my eyes when pigs are being kept in cages that don’t fit their bodies. These animals have souls and how they are raised for human consumption is in humane. The earth’s resources are being depleted in order to keep this industry wealthy.

By no means do I look down upon meat eaters. Each person makes a decision that is right for them. I have heard of people who need to eat some form of meat for health reasons and it works for them. We are all different, comprised of similar yet different chemistry, what works for me doesn’t work for another. I love my lifestyle and at this time can not fore see changing it. I would however appreciate it if people would stop asking me if I miss meat or how I get my protein, and how they know someone who was vegan and had so many health issues. I don’t care that you eat meat only once in awhile. Its just hard when people bring a part of their own judgement into my personal lifestyle. Thank you internet for allowing me to rant!

dearest Mrs Ball. Kudos to you for the post. I think it is vegan consciousness is spreading throughout the galaxies. I’ve been veget. forever yet some how my protein levels have never faltered! hmm? My Ferrous sulfate levels have always been pretty low and that’s the thing that’s connected to iron. I was told to eat iron pills but since those suck, i’ve tried this German tonic for iron called Floralvital. This has truly restored my iron and thus energy levels plus it has some b12 in it.

So far the floralvital and Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar health drinks have restored my health and I haven’t gotten sick since turning vegan again in May of 11′! people often point out how expensive it is to be vegan however combined with cooking your own foods, vegan can be really very unexpensive! Please keep on spreading the word! thanks for the post! Love, American Hernadexx

What a great blog post. It’s so funny to me that people are still so interested in another’s dating habits. Who cares?! Haha. I love how you pointed out your reasons and brought light to the meat industry that so many people don’t know about. It is so important to eat and shop locally. Meat eater or not.
    Great blog Aiball! ❤
